Interactive Targets Instruction

WELCOME TO YOUR NEW INTERACTIVE PODS!

YOUR GOING TO LOVE THIS SYSTEM

BASIC SET UP: Your kit comes complete with 5 MotionGuidance® Interactive PODS, 4 sizes of straps for use on head, trunk, shoulder, or leg, velcro sticky mount pads, adjustable magnet mounts, and the MotionGuidance® combo laser/IR light.

Tips for best use:

MotionGuidance® Interactive pods are a great addition to any standard rehab drill involving coordination, focus, and movement. You can be as creative as you like in creating exercise drills with the light-up pods. Examples may be wearing on the head, and standing in tandom stance as you play challenging games, standing on one leg and wearing the laser on the trunk, or working shoulder ROM via hitting different targets.

For best target response, a distance of 10 feet or closer is recommended, however the pods will still activate from further distances. CHARGE your pods' LASER if you feel they are not responsive enough (a fully charged pod laser is best for response). The LASER can reach full charge in 1hr. There is no battery light indicator on the LASER itself, so if you are having trouble activating the pods just re-charge your laser.

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS:
Download the MotionGuidance® interactive app in the APPLE STORE or GOOGLE PLAY STORE by searching "motion guidance interactive". Next, install the app, and open up one of the games (full descriptions and examples below). Power on each POD you are using by pressing the small circular power button on the side of the pod. Click the "connect" button on the game you choose, and the app will sense how many pods are connected and pair with them. Once you understand the parameters of the game, press "START" and begin!

To charge the pods, simply connect via USB charge cord. Pods can be turned off, but will also power off after a few minutes of non-use.

To charge the Laser/IR combo, connect via USB charge cord.

Mounting the laser: our laser mounts with the parallel and perpendicular mount system, similar to all MotionGuidance® systems. For more info and demos of using this strap and mounting system, please refer to our homepage www.motionguidance.com and product videos.

SETTING UP YOUR SYSTEM:

The MotionGuidance Interactive Pods can be placed on wall using simple veclro adhesive pads. We include these in the kit, however 3M Command adhesive strips work great and can affix to any wall. Heres a look at them on AMAZON.

The pods are also magnetic, so if you have a metal surface, they'll attach!

For those using our pods regulary with clients, using one of our tension banners is a great option! This allows quick "slide" feature, where you can glide the pods across the banner, as well as some great graphics to interact with. Check out the quick slide action below!

COUNTER / TIMER

Each pod acts as its own timer. Great game for timing an up and go walk, or completing a task under time constraint.

SUBSCRIPTION GAMES ($8.99/month)

MEMORY: COLORS

Check your memory skills! Watch the colors appear, then choose them out of the line-up in the correct order!

MEMORY: SEQUENCE

In this game each pod lights up in a particular sequence. Next, you have to re-play that same sequence!

COMMAND

This games great, and is getting a lot of attention from practitioners treating neuro conditions.

🧠 Cognitive Control and Executive Function

The Stroop effect primarily involves the prefrontal cortex — especially the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) — which are responsible for conflict monitoring, attention, and inhibition of automatic responses.

  • People with damage to these regions (due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, or degenerative diseases) often show increased Stroop interference, meaning they take longer to respond or make more errors.

TOUCH OR AIM

In this game, the user has to react to the color, and remember the command (for instance, touch green, look at red). This is a great way to mix things up, and add cognitive function as well as more complex tasks to your training drills.

DUAL FOCUS

It challenges the brain’s ability to divide attention, prioritize, and coordinate multiple neural systems — functions that are often impaired after neurological injury or disease.

Why Dual-Task Training Matters in Neurological Conditions

Help Restore Functional Independence

Daily life almost always involves multitasking — walking while talking, cooking while thinking, navigating while listening, etc.

Neurological conditions often disrupt the ability to handle such combined demands.
By practicing dual tasks, patients can retrain the brain to better manage the real-world cognitive-motor complexity of everyday life.

COLOR QUEST

Make this game simple or complex! Choose the "different" colors, ie the minority colors, to gain points. This adds cognitive challenge and discernment.

KEEP IT STILL

Keep it still is a fun one for those that struggle with posture and balance.

One example may be with pusher's syndrome post stroke

instead of forcing the patient into midline — retrain their perception of upright through visual and proprioceptive feedback.

Patients with Pusher Syndrome genuinely believe they are upright even when they are tilted.
So, physical therapy must focus on re-educating vertical orientation, not just correcting posture physically.

you can have the laser on the patients thorax, align them and aim the laser at the pod, and see if they can stay there (and if they deviate, can they "get back there" on their own?

Or, with a posture dysfunction like kyphoses, see how long they can keep in the desired positon before loosing control.

lots of creative options here!

SACCADES

Importance of Saccade Training in Neurorehabilitation

Here we've combine the KEEP IT STILL function with flashing lights at a set BPM to deliver a great nice saccade training game.

Saccadic training is critical because eye movements anchor attention, balance, and coordination.
When impaired, even subtle dysfunctions can cascade into larger issues with cognition and mobility.

🔹 1. Improves Visual Scanning and Awareness

  • Enhances the ability to scan the environment efficiently, crucial for reading, driving, and mobility.

  • Reduces visual neglect or spatial inattention post-stroke.

🔹 2. Enhances Balance and Gait

  • Eye movements contribute to postural control through the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR).

  • Training helps re-integrate eye–head–body coordination, improving balance during walking and turning.

🔹 3. Strengthens Cognitive Function

  • Saccade tasks challenge attention shifting, working memory, and inhibition — all functions that rely on prefrontal circuits.

  • Beneficial for executive dysfunction and dual-task integration in Parkinson’s, MS, and TBI.

🔹 4. Supports Neuroplasticity

  • Eye-movement training stimulates distributed neural networks (frontal, parietal, cerebellar), promoting recovery and reorganization.
